One of the biggest challenges of operating and / or managing an industrial space is finding the simplest, easiest and most cost-effective way to separate and organise it so that it’s functional, secure and safe for workers. We’ve put this case study blog post together to outline the benefits of industrial partitioning for warehouses and production areas including an example of a recent Accessafe project to demonstrate some of the real-world improvements businesses see after using this method to organise workspaces.
Using industrial partitioning systems to segregate and organise workspaces has a wide array of advantages both from a safety and affordability perspective:
Using existing horizontal space by creating partition rooms (or vertical when creating mezzanines) is much cheaper than expanding or relocating to a new workspace to accommodate your operational needs. In addition, steel industrial partitioning is often much quicker, cheaper and easier to install compared to brick and mortar walls for example, and it’s far less disruptive to your work process.
What’s more, systems like this are usually modular and easy to demount, re-organise or expand as needed if your operations change which is also perfect for those leasing a space where it's best to avoid permanently altering it or installing any partitions that wouldn’t be easy to move or reconfigure.
One of the perhaps most significant benefits of industrial partitioning is the ability to segregate dangerous areas so workers or anyone else within the space is safe and protected and work-related accidents can be minimised as much as possible. Some systems have fire-safety ratings too meaning they offer additional protection, preventing the spread of fire and smoke, etc.
In addition, these partitions are great if you’re looking to store any valuables e.g. equipment or employees’ belongings in a secure area or to lock up hazardous goods.
Breaking a larger space down into smaller, defined areas usually improves workflow and productivity as it reduces congestion and lets you create dedicated zones for the various operations taking place, e.g. storage, packing, dispatch, etc. so a logical flow is created.
Industrial partitioning systems can also absorb noise, dust particles, etc. from different processes and ‘shield’ employees in other areas from those and some can even support temperature control and help cool / heat specific areas and reduce your energy spend.
Space organisation and separation is a key aspect for manufacturing or woodworking businesses for example where partitions create a physical barrier to prevent airborne particles from escaping the designated operational areas and contaminating the rest of the workspace. They are commonly used to separate ‘dirty’ operations (like raw material handling) from ‘clean’ areas (e.g. packaging).
Plus, in industries like pharmaceuticals or food processing, partitions play an important role in creating sterile / clean-room spaces and contribute significantly towards avoiding cross contamination.
Industrial partitions can be used to create clean, organised and professionally-looking office areas for staff within the warehouse floor itself e.g. break rooms, administrative areas, security offices, etc. with the ability to use various customisable layouts as these partitions are modular and can support different needs.
Well-organised, professional looking industrial spaces also make a better impression on visitors, improve employee morale and contribute towards a more aesthetically pleasing working environment.
As part of our largest project up to date, our team recently had the privilege of being selected to help a client upgrade their large purpose built facility by installing effective separation.
Our client’s workspace was quite large with various working areas within it and they were looking to have the area optimised by having an effective industrial partitioning system installed to improve workflows. The open layout without much clear separation between production and warehouse areas was causing potential for mixed workflows and inefficiencies which is what they were looking to avoid.
In addition, our client was looking to have designated spaces created for maintenance as well as tool room areas to improve organisation and to be able to store any tools and other valuables securely.
The Accessafe team started the process by having a thorough consultation with our client to be able to understand their needs as well as possible so that we could deliver the most suitable solution. After agreeing on the specifics, our team designed a custom built industrial partitioning system tailored to the dimensions of our client’s existing space and the various work areas within it that they were looking to separate and optimise. Thanks to the complete flexibility our modular options provide, we were able to tailor the design to the exact specifications and requirements of the client. We also created dedicated maintenance and tool room areas.
Our purpose was to make use of their existing space as much as possible while at the same time building a separation system that can be updated and reorganised in future as and if needed. Our team made sure that the layout we implemented supported both workflow efficiency and productivity but also safety and compliance with relevant legislation.

After having their brand new separation system installed, our client experienced multiple improvements to their workflow, storage practices and day-to-day operations in general. Here are some of the benefits of industrial partitioning they’ve seen since having their space organised and separated by Accessafe:
Improved productivity and employee morale thanks to a clearer and better organised layout
Streamlined workflows, reduced disruption and mixing between various operations
Being able to store valuable tools securely
Better usage of the space they have by optimising a cost-effective solution
A flexible, modular separation system that can easily be adapted as needs evolve
Safer working conditions
