Machine Guarding System Installation for a Global Packaging Production Facility

The Challenge

Before contacting Accessafe, the client’s production area was mostly unrestricted meaning it could be freely accessed by individuals within the facility which was a concern in terms of safety. As the area wasn’t clearly defined there was risk of unauthorised employees accessing operational / potentially hazardous sections of the facility which is why our client was looking for a secure machine guarding system to be installed.

In addition, the area included sections that were tighter or unusually shaped requiring the guarding system that would be installed to be adaptable enough to accommodate the layout while still making sure authorised personnel would be able to access the space.

The Solution: How the Accessafe Team Helped Secure Our Client’s Production Area

After assessing the production area and the access requirements, the Accessafe team designed and installed approximately 27 metres of our standard machine guarding system at a height of 2020mm. By doing this our team effectively created a safe perimeter around the area while at the same time making sure that authorised staff are able to access it as required.

The system included several access points including hinged, roller sliding and double hinged doors to be able to accommodate various opening widths and space constraints across the production area. This meant that personnel and equipment could now enter the space without compromising the safety of the wider perimeter.

Due to the specific shape of the area and space being limited at certain points, there were elements of the system that had to be adjusted on-site during installation, which was a challenge that our team was able to handle without an issue. They worked around the tight gaps by adapting the machine guarding system’s panels and posts to accommodate the unique requirements of the area and create a truly bespoke solution.

The Results

The completed system created a secure perimeter around the production area allowing the client to prevent unauthorised access into an operational and potentially hazardous area of the facility. At the same time the system allows for efficient access of authorised personnel through various entry points using keys. The usage of different types of doors allows for both staff to enter and equipment to be moved in and out of the guarded area thanks to various widths being accommodated. What’s more, since our team was able to accommodate the specific shape of the area by altering the system’s panels and posts, the client didn’t need to make any significant changes to the area itself.

The result is an effectively guarded production area with a custom fitted machine guarding system that allows the client to control access while allowing daily operations to continue as required.
